This week we talked about spiritual hunger and thirst for God. We all have a God shaped hole in our hearts that only God can fill and satisfy. In this world, we try to fill this void with anything and everything you can think of, but ultimately only God can satisfy. People will go after money, power, fame, sex, drugs, alcohol, entertainment of every kind. At sixty years of age, I feel like I’ve been there done that, got all the hats and T-shirts, they just don’t fit me anymore. A few years ago, Karen and I visited the Rock and Roll Hall of fame and the Pro Football Hall of fame. It was fun, but the things of this world grow strangely dim in the Light of His Glory and Grace. I’ve been a sports fan since I was a little kid. I still love sports, but it is not as important to me to know who the top golfer is, who won in tennis, who is the fastest car driver, who can score the most goals or points, who can kick the ball the hardest. I want to know what God is saying. These days I am looking more through a prophetic lens. God will give a message through a sporting event if you have ears to hear. So why would God speak through a football game? Because not everyone goes to church on Sunday. Back when Tim Tebow was playing football, he was known as the guy who would kneel in prayer after a game. That’s way better than kneeling during the anthem! He was also known for messaging John 3:16 by writing that scripture somewhere on his uniform or on his face. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. His final stats from a playoff win against the Steelers: he threw 10 passes for 316 yards for an average of 31.6 yards. Ok the decimal point is off, but I can’t make this up.
A few years ago, the Rams won the Super Bowl. The star player was named Cooper Kupp. He scored the winning touchdown. I found out afterwards that he is a Christian. He said that God gave him a vision that the Rams were going to win the super bowl that year and that he would be most valuable player. He told no one except his wife. He said all year we played not TO victory but FROM victory, having confidence that they would be champs. Final score: Rams 23 Bengals 20 and yes, he was MVP. Go to the scriptures. Psalm 23 says in verse 5, ... Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup runneth over. Kupp ran over the goal line for the win. All of this to say, the things of God are now more exciting to me. The Bible says that if we don’t praise Him, the rocks will. There are many other signs and wonders that God is moving on His earth. Be ready, be ready, be ready. Saddle up and buckle up buttercup, get your popcorn and eat cake and celebrate but STAY HUNGRY, because our God is an awesome God.
