Buckler up butter cup! How big is your faith shield? The Bible says that we only need faith the size of a mustard seed to move a mountain. However, to battle the enemy, we need our shield to be big. We can lock shields together with other believers and push the enemy back. Having said that, there is something called the buckler in the word of God. In ancient times the buckler was a small shield that they used in close hand to hand combat. It was for protection, safety, and defense. God is our Shield and He protects us from all demonic arrows. It is easier to carry the buckler than the large shield. It provides us with comfort knowing we have protection we can use, and we are ready to block all enemy attacks. It should be instinctual. As soon as the arrows leave the enemy’s bow, our shield is already moving to block it and extinguish the fiery darts. Don’t wait for the arrows to hit you and then look for your faith shield. “Now where did I put that shield?” As you lay there, wounded or discouraged.

Many of us want to rip the demon’s heads off but we forget to armor up. I was at a Bible conference once as a new believer. You can get pretty pumped up at these meetings. Excited for Jesus and ready to take the world for God. One preacher was expressing that and said he heard a guy say, “When I get back home, I’m going to kill the devil!” He backslid when he got back. Now when the storms rage, we can say, “Peace be still!” OK, Jesus spoke to the storm and calmed it. Yes, I believe that we can do that too, however, I believe we should not back down and instead say, “Bring on the storm!” Remember, faith over fear! We just have to remember to armor up and use the weapons that God has provided for us. Trust God. Psalm 91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

David knew God and he had seen God in action. He was simply obeying his father’s orders to take food to his brothers and run to the camp where they were at. The Bible says that David arose early in the morning, left the sheep with a keeper and came to the trench where the battle was staging. He saw Goliath defy and taunt the armies of Israel. David was not afraid like the others and said, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” David received a negative word from his brother. “Why did you come down here? You just want to see the battle.” “What have I done?” David said. “Is there not a cause?” Then, he received a negative word from Saul. “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him. For you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” David didn’t say, “I don’t receive that word. I rebuke it in the name of Jesus.” No, he said, “I killed a lion and a bear and now I’m gonna take out this giant.” He had seen God move in his life before and knew he could trust God to do it again. So be sure to armor up and be ready.
