Bible Study Weekly Recap - They That Mourn!

Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted. I like the blessed part, and I like the comfort part. I don’t know about the mourn. But remember, weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the mourning. Or is that morning? Either way, comfort and joy are coming both in the spiritual as is meant here (mourning sin) or even in the natural (mourning loss). So even if we don’t want to mourn, we live here in this world which is wonderful, but there are heartaches sometimes. When mom died and when Joel died, I mourned. But God is near. Holy Spirit is the Comforter. Jesus heals the broken hearted. The Bible says ‘O death where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?’ If you know that your loved one who died went to Heaven, that is a great comfort. But what if you don’t know or what if you think they went to the other place? In the book ‘Heaven is So Real’ by Choo Thomas, God showed Choo both heaven and hell. The shocker was that she saw her parents in hell. Believe it or not. But Choo wrote that, and she had to make a choice to live for God. We all have free will, right? How long do we have to mourn? The children of Israel wept for Moses thirty days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses ended. (Deut. 34:8) God then told Joshua to go over the Jordan and take the land that he gave them. (Joshua 1:2) A friend of mine lost his mom recently and asked, “does the pain ever go away?” They shall be comforted.
On the other side of the coin (spiritual mourning), we are talking about godly sorrow for sin. That is, being sorry for your sins. Contrast Judas and Peter. One betrayed Jesus, and one denied Him. Both felt regret. Judas hanged himself, Peter went fishing. While Peter was in the boat with some other disciples, that night they caught nothing. In the morning, (or is that mourning?) Jesus stood on the shore and asked, ‘Children have ye any meat?’ They answered Him, ‘No.’ He told them to cast their net on the right side of the boat. Jesus knows where the fish are. They cast their net and were not able to draw for the multitude of fishes. John told Peter, “It is the Lord.” As soon as Peter heard that, he jumped out of the ship and swam to Jesus. Jesus restored Peter. He said to Peter “Do you love me? Feed my sheep.” One hung himself because he did not trust Jesus for forgiveness; the other swam to Jesus looking for redemption. Don’t worry about this one or that one. Do what God calls you to do because you love Jesus. Sometimes it starts by being truly sorry for our sins.
