Bible Study Weekly Recap - Feet Shod With The Preparation Of The Gospel Of Peace
By Jerry Baca
There are many ways to view this passage of Scripture. Be ready to go; put on the right shoes to go where God wants you to; when you get there, share the good news of the Gospel; what Gospel? The Gospel of Peace.
Paul saw that the uniform of the Roman soldier could be used to see what God’s armor for us looks like. When we put on His armor, we have truth, righteousness, peace, salvation, faith, and the Spirit of the Word of God. We must be prepared, with the right equipment on to be able to stand against the enemy. It is a spiritual battle, and our enemy is the devil. Praise God we have the victory when we put on Jesus. When we put on the whole armor of God, that is who the enemy sees, Jesus. Resist the enemy and he must flee in Jesus’ name.
The Bible talks a lot about feet and shoes when you think about it. Heaven is His throne, the earth is His footstool, and Jerusalem is the city of the great KING! John the Baptist said that he was not worthy to untie the latchet from Jesus’ sandals. Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, so that they could be clean and prepared to go for Him. The children of Israel crossed the Red Sea and wandered the wilderness for forty years. Their shoes and clothes did not wear out. Joshua was told that every place the soles of his feet touched was given to him. God said that He would be with him wherever he would go.
Karen spoke recently about the Bride of Christ having on combat boots. We are to take the land like Joshua and Caleb did. We are to tread on serpents and scorpions, and nothing shall hurt us. To do so we must have on the right shoes. We must be ready. My dad would have his shoes on all day till the end of the day. When we were going somewhere, my mom would say “are you ready?” “My shoes are on,” he would say. I used to help take up the offering at my previous church. So, one day when the call at my new church came, the usher asked me, “can you help us today?” I said, “yes.” I was thinking, “my shoes are on.”
We have a mandate to Go. Go into all the world and preach the Gospel. Like the military, we must be dressed for battle. We need steel toe boots. Not our tennis shoes, not our dancing shoes, not our flip flops or high heels. There is a time for those kinds of shoes, but we must put on the shoes of the Gospel of Peace. Jesus gives us peace, not like the world gives. We can have peace with our maker, the Prince of Peace. Be ready to share your faith. It is the Good News. The world has had enough fake news or bad news. Like Manny Johnson says, the good news is that the bad news won’t work out. Praise God. We are on the winning team!
