Bible Study Weekly Recap - The Peacemakers (Plus Bonus Facebook Link)

The great poet Rodney King said it all, “Can’t we all just get along?” The Bible says pursue peace with all men. Not just our brethren. To be a peacemaker is a high calling. We should pray for world peace. Announcing the birth of Christ, the angels proclaimed peace and goodwill to all men. Before his death on the cross, Jesus told his men, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” He Himself is our peace. The things that people pursue like pleasure, fame, or wealth, do not leave peace, they leave us with anxiety. They are incapable of providing the peace which the soul needs. Philosophy and false religion profess to give us peace, but it is not real. They don’t take away our sins or reconcile us to God. The peace that Jesus gives us is in contrast with the world. It is secure and eternal.

I know what it’s like to have no peace. It is a terrible feeling. You cannot even sleep or rest. I have also heard of men before passing on wanting to make their peace with God. That is good but why wait? We can have our peace with God now, today. Peace with God then peace with men. In this world, we must actively pursue peace with others. Jesus also said to love our enemies. We cannot have peace without love, the love of God shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Ghost. We need that supernatural love and peace of God.

In this Bible study, we look at a few examples to help us. Abraham, Joseph, and Becca’s hero, Abigail. What an amazing woman she was. Personally, I overlooked her until this study although my wife Karen was on it and is very familiar with this Bible character. These were all real people, with real problems, that had to find what they call conflict resolution. The story of Joseph should be read and reread. An amazing story of forgiveness and healing among brothers. And, if you stick around to the end of this study, you will hear Karen tell an amazing personal story that also brought peace to her family.
