Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is … Joy
Joy unspeakable and full of glory. This kind of joy is top level supernatural joy from God. How do you define this kind of joy? It is indescribable but the best way I found to describe it is holy joy, glorious joy, or sanctified joy. God is our EXCEEDING JOY. Joy comes from a relationship with Jesus. Just like love has a name, joy has a name, it is JESUS. Joy is the second fruit of the Spirit spoken of in Galatians chapter five. As long as you can be filled with the Holy Spirit, you can be filled with joy. In fact, it is impossible to be filled with joy without the Holy Spirit. Joy is exclusively and peculiarly a Christian grace. I do not believe that you can find joy in any man-made religion. The joy of the Lord is our strength.
The difference between happiness and joy is circumstances. If all is going well you are happy, but when all goes wrong, happiness departs. Joy can be experienced even in trials, so joy remains even if circumstances change because it relies on the One True Source that never changes, God Himself. So, it is much deeper than natural cheerfulness. Jesus said that He spoke His word to his disciples so that His joy might remain in them and that their joy might be full. We are talking about the fullness of joy. We are also told to count it all joy when we go through trials. We might sow in tears, but we will reap in joy. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. The devil would love to steal our joy. But he cannot because God put the joy joy joy joy down in our hearts and the devil can’t get his grimy hands on it. God is able to put a new song in your heart, a dance in your step and laughter in your mouth.
Jesus said that in this world, you will have tribulation but to be of good cheer because He has overcome the world. I pray that He will drop one of His cheer drops in you. You will know it when it happens. You might even say I got it! Then others will find out that this kind of joy is contagious and they might get it too. If you do not have joy, just ask the Father, He will put a smile on your face. You can be like David who said, restore unto me the joy of thy salvation. Don’t you want this kind of joy? There is too much hate in the world right now. Which takes us all the way back to Genesis. Do you know how long Cain hated his brother? As long as he was Abel. Why wasn’t Boaz a nice man before he got married? He was Ruth-less. How do you make holy water? Put water in a pot and boil the hell out of it. God bless each and every one of you in Jesus name. Hope to see you in our next one coming up in February!
